Charles Goss
Charles Goss has been teaching at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (where he is currently a full time faculty member) for 25 years, and been working in a studio of one sort or another for close to 40.
Working in drawing and painting, sculpture, photography, and installation he creates works with re-formed materials from our everyday world: clothing, wristwatches, street detritus, wax-paper, foodstuffs, electric appliances, and more. These works speak of time, mortality and our futile efforts to capture and control nature, beguiling viewers with humor to look just a minute longer and reveal unexpected interpretations.
Charles received a BFA from the University of Colorado and an MFA from the Museum School/Tufts University. His recent solo exhibitions took place at Bromfield Gallery (Boston), The Gear Gallery (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), Lecoq Gallery (Berlin, Germany), Ruimte Gallery (Amsterdam), and Empathetic Gallery (Charlotte, NC). He founded Art In Amsterdam, a summer artists' residency which, for the past 12 years, has supported artists to travel to Amsterdam to create new work.
In addition to his studio work, Charles keeps a daily journal that has recently evolved into a book of photography and writing entitled Everything I Don't Know, Volume 1, first exhibited for the public in March 2010.
